The Morganton Optimist Soap Box Derby is located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and was founded in 1985 by the Morganton Optimist Club.  We started running the derby in downtown Morganton as part of the July 4th celebration.  It has now moved to a dedicated track at the Burke County Fair Grounds at 145 Bost Road.  Our race is held the 2nd Saturday in May.
